Texans’ Clowney to be placed on IR
The disappointing 2014 season apparently is over for Houston Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Texans coach Bill O’Brien announced via the team’s Twitter account on Thursday that Clowney will be placed on injured reserve because of a right knee injury. Clowney is scheduled to have another surgery on that knee.
Clowney, 21, played in just four regular-season games in his rookie season, recording seven tackles and no sacks.
Injuries have plagued him throughout the season. He had a sports hernia and a concussion in preseason, then was bothered by the knee problem through most of the regular season.
He had arthroscopic knee surgery earlier this season, and he had swelling in that knee through most of the season.
Clowney was examined by Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday, and the decision to shut Clowney down was made after that visit.
