#1 Gary Patterson, TCU Horned Frogs

Even if TCU doesn’t make it in the College Football Playoff, Gary Patterson has done the best job in the country this season. TCU only has one hiccup on their resume and Gary Patterson has transformed his team to perhaps the best program in the state of Texas.

#2 Rich Rodriguez, Arizona Wildcats

Rich Rod has taken Arizona to new heights and for that team to play in the Pac 12 Championship Game is truly amazing. If Rodriguez beats Oregon for the second time in one season, he deserves this award and every other one, hands down.

#3 Nick Saban, Alabama Crimson Tide

Nick Saban is the king of the halftime adjustment and when you’re one of the best recruiters ever, that spells some certain doom for your opponents. Saban doesn’t have a great Alabama team but it is still the best in the nation and there’s a better chance he wins the national title than he doesn’t.

#4 Jimbo Fisher, Florida State Seminoles

Jimbo Fisher largely goes unappreciated but he’s won 27 consecutive games, most of this year’s in close fashion. Sure, the ‘Noles have had some breaks along the way but Jimbo Fisher has pulled the right strings. To lead the team with the most distractions in the nation to win after win each and every week is nothing short of impressive, even if they’re “not winning by enough points.”

#5 Urban Meyer, Ohio State Buckeyes

Say what you want about Ohio State’s schedule, the Buckeyes are a good football team. Urban Meyer has taken a team with a backup quarterback and made him into a Heisman contender en route to a 11-1 regular season. Meyer will have to yield some more magic as quarterback J.T. Barrett was lost for the season in Saturday’s victory over Michigan, and Ohio State will have to go the rest of the way with Cardale Jones, their third-string quarterback.

Again, this isn’t a list of the best coaches in the country, it’s a list of which coaches are doing the best job this season.
