Suspended DE Spence to enter draft

Published

Suspended indefinitely by the Big Ten, Ohio State defensive end Noah Spence said via Twitter he is ready for the NFL.

“Not what I wanted but now it’s time to get ready for the next level, I’ve learnt so much in the last couple months that it’s all worth it,” Spence tweeted after being told the Big Ten declared him permanently ineligible Wednesday.

Spence opted to appeal the Big Ten suspension rather than transferring to a FCS program to play in 2014. He was suspended Aug. 30

At 6-3, 252, he could be an outside linebacker in the NFL, according to NFLDraftScout.com’s Dane Brugler.

“Spence is a versatile front-seven defender, lining up at left and right end for the Buckeyes, standing up or putting his hand on the ground,” Brugler said. “He appears comfortable on his feet and has dropped in space enough to show that he can do it, but needs to improve his instincts and experience in this area, especially with several teams with a 3-4 base defense scouting him as a stand-up linebacker.”

Spence led the Buckeyes with eight sacks and 14.5 tackles for last in his first season as a starter in 2013.
