Mother of Still’s daughter claims lack of child support

Published

on

The mother of an NFL player’s 4-year-old daughter who is battling cancer wrote in a letter to the NFL that he has not paid child support for months and that she is unable to pay medical bills.

Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Devon Still has made his daughter Leah’s ordeal public and devoted his attention to raising awareness of pediatric cancer. Leah has been undergoing treatment for neuroblastoma since June.

In a letter to NFL vice president Jeffrey Pash published by the New York Daily News, Leah’s mother, Channing Smythe, alleged that Still is four months behind on child support.

“I don’t think it is fair that Devon Still, who is Leah’s father, has refused to pay any child support for her for the months of August, September, October and November of this year,” Smythe wrote.

“I have an outstanding medical bill for Leah for an ambulance for her. I have been unable to pay the ambulance bill, and it is not covered under insurance. If I were receiving child support for Leah I would be able to pay this bill, but since Leah’s father is refusing to provide child support I am unable to pay the bill for the ambulance.”

The NFL and the Bengals have yet to comment on the letter.

Smythe said she is staying at the home of a friend and that otherwise she and her daughter would be homeless because she is unable to work while devoting her attention to Leah’s care.

Still has not made a public statement on the letter but said Tuesday night on Instagram: “Give ppl time and they will expose themselves.”
