Report: Griffin could get quick hook
The Washington Redskins could pull quarterback Robert Griffin III if he struggles early Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, according to ESPN.
Coach Jay Gruden was critical of Griffin last week, even saying that he has been coddled.
If Griffin is taken out of the game, he would be replaced by Colt McCoy, who is 2-0 this season. It is possible the team could re-evaluate the starting quarterback position this week.
Gruden said that Griffin has had a breakdown in fundamentals and has been unable to overcome adversity.
It is not clear how team owner Dan Snyder feels about the situation. He handpicked Griffin to be the team’s franchise quarterback.
Griffin has passed for 763 yards with two total touchdowns and three interceptions in four games. The team is 0-2 since he returned from a dislocated left ankle.
