NY Gov.: ‘Impractical’ to play in Buffalo Sunday

Published

on

New York governor Andrew Cuomo, stranded in Western New York by nearly six feet of snow in the Buffalo region, does not expect Ralph Wilson Stadium to be playable for Sunday’s scheduled game between the Bills and New York Jets.

“If you ask me today, right now … my two cents would be it would impractical to do the game,” Cuomo said Thursday, as snow continued to stack up in the region with another day of accumulation ahead.

The NFL has a Friday deadline for determining when to play the game. The league said it is monitoring the situation but Cuomo asked residents to resist the urge to leave their homes and abide by a driving ban that will not likely be lifted until Friday at the earliest.

CBS, scheduled to televise the game, said the game could be played Sunday in Toronto.

The Bills were not able to practice Wednesday and Thursday.

Running back Fred Jackson said the scenario puts the Bills at a major disadvantage. Coach Doug Marrone, who along with most of his assistants is a fulltime resident of the team facility this week, called the uncertainty and limited access to his players the biggest challenge he has faced in his career.
