11-16-14 NCAA Heisman Rankings
See how far Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon shot up the board with his record-setting performance.
It’s a wide open season for the Heisman Trophy. Let’s see who tops the board this week.
Heisman Rankings
1. Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon
We can’t drop Marcus Mariota when his team is on a bye, but if we could this would be the week to do so. If Mariota stays the course and his team keeps winning, he should win the award.
2. Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin
Melvin Gordon went from Heisman sleeper to busting the door down at the Downtown Athletic Club with his record breaking performance on Saturday. Not only did he out-rush Ameer Abdullah, but he out-rushed every FBS player in the history of college football and did it in just three quarters. His final stat line: 25 carries, 408 yards, three touchdowns. Ridiculous.
3. Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama
Since Alabama is officially back in the drivers seat for a playoff spot, they can only be represented by their best football player, and that’s Amari Cooper. Cooper will need some things to happen, such as Marcus Mariota losing and Melvin Gordon having an inexplicable slump, but he should get a visit to the Big Apple.
4. Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor
Bryce Petty moves up during his bye week as there was a major shakeup in the rankings. Petty will still have his work cut out for him to get the award, but his numbers are very good and he’s been pretty consistent.
5. Dak Prescott, QB, Mississippi State
Prescott had his worst game of the season in his biggest game, which everyone watched. That’s not a great look. He’s not completely out of it if he plays really well the rest of the way and Mariota loses and so does Alabama.
Marcus Mariota must keep his numbers up and can’t afford to lose another game. Melvin Gordon has great momentum right now after his record-setting performance. Dak Prescott needs some help at the top and Bryce Petty has the numbers, but needs some upsets.
