Cowboys’ Bryant frustrated with contract progress

IRVING, Texas — Dallas wide receiver Dez Bryant is growing frustrated with the protracted contract talks with the Cowboys. He said he appreciates the support the team has shown him, but loyalty works both ways.

“I just know what I’m going to accept and I know what I’m not going to accept,” Bryant said. “You know, it’s not about the money. It’s not about none of that. I just feel like a little respect should play a factor in that.

“I love it (here). I really do. But every day you grow. Let’s see what happens. It’s all about respect. It’s all about respect. I am a very loyal person, but just don’t test my loyalty.”

Bryant said has learned a lot during the negotiations and said it has changed his relationship with the Jones family.

“Yeah, because I’m used to, not saying that they’re not for me or anybody is for me, but I’m used to a family atmosphere,” Bryant said. “But we got money involved, so they got to make sure that they’re making the right investment. And I got to make sure that I’m worthy of everything.”

“I learned a lot, I learned a lot,” Bryant said while laughing. “It’s truly a business. It’s truly a business. You live and you learn. I just think it’s all business. They have to do what they have to do. I have to do what I have to do. And I’m pretty sure at the end of the day, we’ll come to a nice agreement.”

Bryant recently changed agents from Eugene Parker to Jay Z’s Roc Nation and Creative Artists Agency’s Tom Condon and says he deserves to be one of the three highest-paid receivers in the NFL.

The NFL’s top four receivers in terms of pay are Detroit’s Calvin Johnson, Arizona’s Larry Fitzgerald, the New York Jets’ Percy Harvin and Miami’s Mike Wallace.

Their contracts average more than $12 million a year each and they are among six receivers — including Houston’s Andre Johnson and Kansas City’s Dwayne Bowe — who each have at least $20 million in guaranteed money.
