Report: Peterson close to plea deal
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is close to reaching a plea deal on his child abuse case in Texas, ESPN reported Sunday.
According to the report, Peterson and his lawyers have been negotiating a deal, which could be completed by Tuesday.
It is not known what effect the deal would have on his playing status. Peterson has been on paid leave all season since his arrest. Officially, he is on the commissioner’s exempt list.
Another issue that could be involved in the deal is a request by prosecutors to have Peterson’s bond revoked after the star running back admitted that he smoked marijuana before his initial court appearance in September.
Peterson faces a felony count of reckless or negligent injury to a child after he disciplined his 4-year-old son by whipping him with a tree branch. The boy had bruises and wounds on him from the whipping.
