11-2-14 NCAA Coach Of The Year Rankings
Find out which coaches are doing the best job this season.
Coaching matters in football more than any other sport. Coaching matters even more in college football as you can outscheme your opponents on a weekly basis. We are going to rank the Top 5 coaches in college football from week to week in our Coach of the Year Rankings.
#1 Dan Mullen, Mississippi State Bulldogs
Mullen’s team looks far from unbeatable, but they are still ranked No. 1 and prior to the season few would have predicted that. Mullen’s success might earn him a one-way trip out of Starkville after the season as he’ll be a hot candidate for both the upcoming Florida and Michigan jobs.
#2 Gary Patterson, TCU
Gary Patterson has seemingly transformed his program from one that wins with defense to one that wins in shootouts. In just his second season in the BIg 12, Patterson’s Horned Frogs lead the conference and they’re one late meltdown away from being undefeated.
#3 Rich Rodriguez, Arizona Wildcats
Sure, Arizona lost on Saturday but Rich Rodriguez is doing more with less than anyone else in the nation. It’s truly impressive to see what he’s done and he, like Mullen, will be a hot name for the big jobs in the offseason.
#4 Brian Kelly, Notre Dame
Brian Kelly’s Irish played their best game a few weeks ago against Florida State but they had a natural let down against Navy. If Kelly and Notre Dame can record road wins against Arizona State and USC, they’ll have as good of a chance as anyone to get into the playoff.
#5 Jimbo Fisher, FSU
Fisher’s team went into a hornet’s nest on a Thursday night in Louisville, and after trailing 21-0 found a way to survive. This isn’t a great FSU team like last year’s version, but there’s something to be said for continually finding ways to win and that’s what they keep doing.
Again, this isn’t a list of the best coaches in the country, it’s a list of which coaches are doing the best job this season.
