EARTH CITY, Mo. — The St. Louis Rams had an unusual Wednesday as they began preparations for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Because of the number of injured players as well as making myriad moves (17 and counting for the roster and practice squad) since Sunday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, coach Jeff Fisher had his team on the practice field for about an hour doing a walk-through.

A normal Wednesday practice lasts more than two hours.

“I had 13 people on the injury report and I felt like we needed to back down today,” Fisher said. “Our focus is having them ready at 1 o’clock on Sunday. Because you don’t practice full speed, you have to estimate had you had a full practice what would they have done. We went ahead and did that and we’re accurate with that. We’ll get some players back tomorrow. I’m sure and then more and more players back on Friday.”

Of the 13 players, eight would not have practiced and five would have been limited.

Those that wouldn’t have practiced were guard Rodger Saffold (shoulder), center Scott Wells (elbow), safety Cody Davis (concussion), cornerback Janoris Jenkins (knee), defensive end William Hayes (foot), defensive tackle Aaron Donald (shoulder), safety Rodney McLeod (knee) and linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar.

Listed as limited were cornerbacks Trumaine Johnson (knee) and Marcus Roberson (hip), wide receiver Kenny Britt (hip), defensive back Lamarcus Joyner (hip) and center Tim Barnes.

Added to the 53-man roster were safety Mark Barron in a trade with Tampa Bay, wide receiver Damian Williams, linebacker Korey Toomer and tackle/guard Brandon Washington. The latter two had been on the practice squad.

Leaving the roster were tackle Jake Long (knee) and wide receiver Brian Quick (shoulder), both of whom were placed on reserve/injured. In addition, quarterback Case Keenum and cornerback Jemea Thomas were waived.

Added to the practice squad were tackle Steven Baker, wide receiver Emory Blake, guard/tackle Travis Bond and tight end Justice Cunningham. Keenum, whose locker was intact with his name still there Wednesday, cleared waivers Wednesday and will be added to the practice squad. Thomas is also expected to be brought back to the practice squad once he clears waivers Thursday.

Released from the practice squad this were were quarterback Garrett Gilbert and Kadron Boone. Tackle Mike Remmers was signed off the practice squad by the Carolina Panthers.

Including Keenum and Thomas likely being added to the practice squad, the Rams will have made 19 roster moves this week involving 15 players.

Asked what the week has been like with all the roster maneuvering, quarterback Austin Davis said, “It has a different feel to it, but at the same time it’s all about Sunday. We’ve got to be ready to play Sunday. Today’s a little different day with the walk-through. Just trying to get mental reps and focus. The focus is on the physical health of the football team to get everyone ready to play. The fact that it’s a familiar opponent helps in this type of week. But at the same time, every game’s a different game.”
