Goodell must testify at Rice hearing

Published

on

An arbitrator formally ruled Wednesday that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will be required to testify at the appeals hearing of Ray Rice’s indefinite suspension, according to reports.

Former U.S. District Judge Barbara S. Jones is the independent arbitrator in the case, which is scheduled to be heard Nov. 5.

Rice was cut by the Baltimore Ravens and suspended indefinitely by the league on Sept. 8 after video surfaced showing the running back knocking out his then-fiancee, Janay Palmer, in an elevator in February.

Before the video was posted by TMZ, Goodell had suspended Rice for two games. Because of the criticism the league received in the wake of the case, it altered its policy on domestic violence.

The players’ union is appealing Rice’s suspension. Jones was picked by the commissioner and the union to hear the case.
