Bucs sign Holliday, promote Fatinikun

Published

on

Well-traveled return specialist Trindon Holliday signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday.

In addition to signing Holliday, the Buccaneers promoted defensive end T.J. Fatinikun from the practice squad to the active roster and waived wide receiver Solomon Patton and defensive end Scott Solomon.

Holliday is in his fifth season and has four career regular-season returns for touchdowns. He also returned a punt and kickoff for a touchdown in the same playoff game in 2013 with the Denver Broncos.

He averages 27.1 yards per kickoff return, but also has 10 fumbles on punt returns in his career and one on a kickoff return.

Holliday’s penchant for fumbles cost him job security with the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos. He was waived by the New York Giants on Oct. 6 without appearing in a game.

The Buccaneers won’t likely get much help from Holliday on offense. While he lined up at wide receiver and in the backfield with the Broncos in 2013, he has only two career receptions for 17 yards (in 2012 with Denver) and one carry for seven yards.

To fill out their practice squad, the Buccaneers signed linebacker Mister Alexander and wide receiver Marcus Thigpen to the practice squad, while releasing linebacker Shayne Skov.
