Rookie running back Jerick McKinnon rushed for 103 yards against the Bills’ top-ranked rushing defense and rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was 15-of-26 passing for 157 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

Spiller’s long gain on his only carry of the game set up Dan Carpenter’s 31-yard field goal that tied the game 10-10 with 4:05 left in the first half.

Wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson scored a 4-yard touchdown on a screen pass from Teddy Bridgewater to give the Vikings a 10-7 lead at 6:17 of the second quarter. A 38-yard pass to wide receiver Greg Jennings put the Vikings in scoring range.

Walsh made a 40-yard field goal to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead late in the first quarter. Minnesota started its drive at the Buffalo 27 after safety Harrison Smith forced a fumble by Bills wide receiver Robert Woods that was recovered by linebacker Anthony Barr. It was Buffalo’s second lost fumble by a wide receiver in the first quarter.
