Panthers unsure if WR Benjamin will play vs. Packers
Carolina rookie wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin missed practice on Thursday, his second straight of being sidelined because of a concussion suffered in Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Benjamin’s status for Sunday’s game at Green Bay is uncertain, but coach Ron Rivera said he will have a better idea on Friday if Benjamin will suit up.
Benjamin is scheduled to be examined by a team of independent doctors on Friday as part of the NFL’s protocol on treating concussions.
The Panthers’ first-round draft pick out of Florida State leads all rookies with 416 yards receiving on 31 catches, including four touchdowns.
Benjamin suffered the concussion after taking a shot from Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict. Burfict is appealing a fine for twisting the ankles of Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and tight end Greg Olson.
Benjamin passed a concussion test during the game and returned to action. He finished with seven catches for 49 yards and a touchdown.
