Dallas Cowboys backup running back Joseph Randle faces a steep fine for shoplifting Gucci cologne and underwear from a Dillard’s store in Frisco, Texas, on Monday.

Head coach Jason Garrett said Randle will play Sunday against the New York Giants.

Randle, whose 2014 base salary is $495,000, was charged with a Class B misdemeanor for theft of goods valued at between $50 and $500 and released on a writ bond at 1:20 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Police observed the second-year running back putting items in a bag that contained a purchase he made at the cosmetics counter.

“He took full responsibility for it,” Garrett said. “There were a lot of circumstances that were surrounding the situation but there are no excuses, no explanations for this. He took full responsibility and he made a really poor decision. He recognizes that.

“This is the poorest decision he ever made in his life and, again, there are consequences to those decisions and we made that abundantly clear with him. There are public consequences and there are certainly consequences on this football team. He understands that, and he’s going to feel that and we’re going to move forward.”

Randle is coming off an impactful game Sunday at Seattle with 100 total yards (52 rushing, 48 receiving) on just nine touches as the Cowboys seek more support for the NFL leader in rushing attempts and yards, DeMarco Murray.

A fifth-round pick in 2013, Randle is one of several former Oklahoma State players on the Cowboys roster, including former college teammate Brandon Weeden. Wide receiver Dez Bryant, kicker Dan Bailey and backup safety Tyler Patmon are also OSU products.
