NASHVILLE — Tennessee Titans left tackle Michael Roos is out for the season, and the 32-year-old likely suited up for the team for the final time.

Roos, a free agent in March, is scheduled for season-ending knee surgery. The news came days after safety Bernard Pollard learned his Achille injury would end his season.

Roos, in his 10th season, all with the Titans, is a free agent at the end of the season and the Titans already have his heir apparent in place: 2014 first-round draft pick Taylor Lewan of Michigan.

The loss of Roos is huge for the Titans in that in his nine-plus seasons with the team he has only missed one game. That came in 2012 after he underwent an appendectomy. But he was back in the lineup after only one week.

As for Lewan, the Titans had been toying with ways to get him on the field. Guard Andy Levitre had been struggling, and there had been talk of possibly using the rookie there. Lewan has been used the past two games in some packages as an extra blocker, lining up at tight end.

Lewan insists he is ready for the challenge and the task of stepping into the starting lineup, beginning this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“That’s one of the reasons why I was drafted here, to eventually play left tackle. Whatever happens to Roos happens to Roos, but I’ve been preparing like I’m a starter every week,” Lewan said before word leaked out of the seriousness of Roos’ injury. “I’ve been learning from him since the day I got here, so that I’m prepared if I need to be.”
