Deshaun Watson Declines Senior Bowl Invite
See why Deshaun Watson declined Senior Bowl invite.
For tons of NFL draftees, the Senior Bowl is a golden opportunity for them to improve their stock as scouts from every single team should be in attendance. One of those teams will be the Cleveland Browns, who own the No.1 and No.12 overall picks.
It’s unclear what Cleveland plans to do with the top pick, but one of their options is Clemson star quarterback Deshaun Watson, who just helped take down Alabama in the National Championship Game.
Unfortunately, Watson won’t be playing in the Senior Bowl this week.
“We extended an invitation that was on the table for six weeks, if not two months,” Senior Bowl executive director Phil Savage said Monday. “I did ask the Cleveland Browns to reach out to him and talk to him about the positives of the game. I do not know the context of that conversation, but I do know that he was noncommittal.
“He never said no to the Browns; he said no, ultimately, to the Reese’s Senior Bowl. I just want to be clear that Deshaun Watson did not say no to Hue Jackson or anybody from the Browns … I spoke to Deshaun and his agent and he politely declined, but he was honored that we thought he was good enough to come here.”
Considering Watson has been on the biggest stage of college football for the past two seasons, it’s understandable as to why he’ll like to take some time off.
