Mark Helfrich Reached Out To Chip Kelly About Oregon Return

Find out why Mark Helfrich reached out to Chip Kelly about Oregon job.

When Chip Kelly decided to take his coaching talents to the professional level, former Oregon Ducks offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich was promoted to the head coaching position. During his four-year tenure as head coach, Oregon went (37-16), which wasn’t quite good enough.

Helfrich was dismissed by the program Tuesday, but he saw the writing on the wall a couple of weeks ago. In an interview with ESPN radio, Helfrich revealed a conversation he had with Kelly. In that dialogue, Helfrich expressed how he felt Kelly should consider a return to Oregon in order to save some of the coaching staffs jobs. Nonetheless, Kelly seems comfortable where he’s at.

“I think he wants to make it right in the NFL. I think he wants to win at that level. He’s had a rough go of it this year, but he’ll make it right,” Helfrich said of Kelly.

The 49ers are currently sitting with the second-worst record in football at (1-10).
