Football Insiders’ Week 8 NFL Picks

Find out which upsets we have playing out in Week 8.

on

We’re coming off our best week of the season and it’s time to build upon the prognostication success.

Washington vs. Cincinnati (London)

This is the Bengals chance to get back to .500 against a mediocre Washington team.  Sure, Cincy would rather be playing a true home game instead of in London, but that’s the hand they’ve been dealt.  Bengals 27, ‘Skins 20.

Kansas City vs. Indianapolis

The Chiefs need another road victory to keep the pace in the ultra-competitive AFC West.  The Colts can climb into a share of first in the AFC South with a win. This should be one of the best games of the week, but I’m going with the team with the better roster. Chiefs 31, Colts 27.

Oakland vs. Tampa Bay

Can the Raiders win two straight games in Florida in consecutive weeks?  None of the three Sunshine State teams have been able to do it this season, why would a team from the “other Bay Area” accomplish the feat?  Bucs 24, Raiders 23.

Seattle vs. New Orleans

On paper this looks like a pretty easy pick as the Seahawks are much better than the Saints, but they do have to travel across the country.  This one should be closer than people think.  Seahawks 24, Saints 21.

Detroit vs. Houston

The Lions have the better quarterback, the Texans have the better personnel and they’re undefeated at home.  Texans 20, Lions 16.

N.Y. Jets vs. Cleveland

This is one of the rare chances that the Browns have to get a win this season. If they had a quarterback that was ready I’d love to pick them.  They don’t.  Fighting Fitzpatrick’s 24, Brownies 16.

New England vs. Buffalo

The Patriots won’t lose to the Bills twice in one year.  Pats 31, Bills 13.

Arizona vs. Carolina

This rematch of last year’s NFC title game isn’t what we thought it would be entering the season.  Carolina is certainly down and the Cardinals have the better roster.  With that said….Upset Special!  Panthers 24, Cards 22.

San Diego vs. Denver

Just as the Patriots won’t lose twice in a year to the Bills, the Broncos won’t lose twice in a year to the Chargers.  The Broncos will find some way to win, but it won’t be easy.  Broncos 27, Chargers 21.

Green Bay vs. Atlanta

The Falcons seem to be headed in the direction of last year’s team after they went 5-0 and then finished 8-8.  Green Bay looked like the team we thought they would be in the second half of the Chicago game and had an extra three days to prepare for the Falcons.  Packers 31, Falcons 27.

Philadelphia vs. Dallas

Who is the better rookie quarterback?  So far it’s Dak Prescott, but the Eagles are the best defense he’s faced so far this season.  This will be close, but Dak magic continues.  Cowboys 24, Eagles 20.

Minnesota vs. Chicago

The Bears have Jay Cutler back and he gets to play against maybe the best defense in the NFL.  This game could have a lot of boos for the home team.  Vikings 20, Bears 9.

Last week: 10-3-1

Season: 53-48-1

Buccaneers admit mistake, boot Aguayo

In the NFL, it’s always better to admit a mistake than to compound it. For the Buccaneers, the decision to burn a 2016 second-round pick on kicker Robert Aguayo has proven to be a mistake. The Buccaneers made the definitive admission of their error on Saturday, cutting Aguayo. He exits with $428,000 in fully-guaranteed salary [more]
