Cleveland Browns backup quarterback Johnny Manziel is expected to meet with NFL investigators after practice Wednesday.

The NFL is investigating whether Manziel violated the league’s personal-conduct policy in an Oct. 12 incident with his girlfriend. Coach Mike Pettine described the NFL interview as “imminent” at his Wednesday news conference. Sources told ESPN that the meeting is set for Wednesday afternoon, with a representative from the league present. Pettine said the league wants to handle the issue quickly.

Manziel was stopped by police on an interstate in the Cleveland suburb of Avon after driving at a high rate of speed and weaving through traffic. He had an argument with his girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, who told police that Manziel hit her “a couple times” and pushed her face against a car window.

—Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback William Gay has been fined by the NFL for wearing purple shoes in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Gay’s mother was shot and killed by his stepfather in an act of domestic violence when Gay was 7 years old. Gay was fined $5,787 because the purple cleats violate the NFL’s uniform code. Gay is the third Steelers player to run into conflict with the NFL’s uniform policies this season.

—The New York Jets released punter Steve Weatherford after a four-day stint when he was signed as an emergency replacement last week.

Regular punter Ryan Quigley missed last Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots with a leg infection. Quigley, who has been taking antibiotics, apparently is ready to come back for Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders.

Weatherford, who previously punted for the Jets, admitted after Sunday’s game he wasn’t ready to play. He punted four times, averaging 40.3 yards, and held the ball five times on field-goal and extra-point placements. Weatherford, 32, played for the Jets in 2009-10. In four seasons with the New York Giants, he averaged 46.3 yards per punt.

—The Tampa Bay Buccaneers promoted wide receiver Adam Humphries from the practice squad to the active roster.

Humphries has two receptions for 14 yards in three games with the Buccaneers this season. He is an undrafted rookie out of Clemson who spent the offseason with the Bucs and was on the roster for the first four games before heading back to the practice squad.

The Bucs also signed wide receiver Andre Davis, offensive lineman Ryan Groy, defensive tackle Derrick Lott and linebacker Julian Stanford to the practice squad.

—Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is back on top with the NFL’s best-selling jersey and in overall merchandise sales.

The NFL Players Inc., the licensing and marketing arm of the NFL Players Association, released its list of the top 50 best-selling players among products licensed from March through August. Wilson ended last year atop the NFLPA’s sales charts, but he was interrupted by New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady at the top of the first-quarter list.

Brady took the No. 2 spot despite an offseason of Deflategate controversy. Wilson was the top seller in both men’s and women’s jerseys. Brady led all players in sales of Fathead wall posters, Oyo figurines and Funkos.

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning (No. 3 overall) had the best-selling name and number T-shirts, and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (No. 4) sold the most women’s T-shirts. Rounding out the top five is Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt. Watt’s doll, made by Bleacher Creatures and featured on HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” was a league best-seller. Watt leads defensive players in Nike jersey sales.

—The New England Patriots claimed safety Dewey McDonald off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts, placed linebacker Rufus Johnson on the non-football illness list, signed defensive backs Floyd Raven Sr. and Ross Ventrone to the practice squad and released defensive back Brandon Dixson from the practice squad.

The Colts released McDonald on Wednesday. The 25-year-old played in 12 games for Indianapolis last season and finished with 13 tackles on special teams. He began this season on the practice squad before being signed to the 53-man roster playing last Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.
