Jason Pierre-Paul is back with the New York Giants after agreeing to terms on a contract Tuesday, the team announced.

The star defensive end received a one-year, incentive-laden contract, according to NFL.com.

Pierre-Paul missed the start of the season after a July 4 fireworks accident led to the amputation of his right index finger and caused other damage to his right hand.

The Giants placed the franchise tag on Pierre-Paul during the offseason, but he had yet to sign the $14.8 million tender before getting injured. He had 12 1/2 sacks last season.

Upon Pierre-Paul’s return, the Giants will have a two-week roster exemption during which he can practice and continue to work his way into game shape.

“What a humbling experience this has been for me!” Pierre-Paul posted on his Instagram account. “I’d like to take the time out to thank God FIRST for giving me a second opportunity to play football. I’d also like to thank the Giants organization for believing in me to play for them again and to be alongside my brothers during the 2015 Season. …

“Have faith, patience and prayer with you always! Let’s go Big Blue!”

Pierre-Paul, 26, was the Giants’ first-round pick (15th overall) in 2010 out of South Florida. He had a career-high 16.5 sacks in 2011, his second season. Last year was the first time in his five NFL seasons that he started all 16 games.
