Browns still have plans for WR Bowe
The Sports Xchange
BEREA, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns claim they haven’t given up on Dwayne Bowe, but the wide receiver in his first year with Cleveland after eight in Kansas City is still looking for his first catch.
Bowe has been inactive for three games and was a healthy scratch in two of them.
“We’re going to need Dwayne at some point this year, there’s no doubt about it,” offensive coordinator John DeFilippo said. “It’s a long season. I don’t count games. We a have 10 games left. We just have to keep going and I see progress from Dwayne every week.”
Bowe is on a two-year $12.5 million contract with $9 million guaranteed.
–When linebacker Karlos Dansby intercepted two passes by Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning last Sunday, he earned the distinction of becoming the only linebacker in the NFL to intercept pass thrown by both Peyton and Eli Manning.
“Maybe I can go to their passing camp and get one from Archie,” Dansby joked.
–The Browns and Rams, who play in St. Louis on Sunday, last met four years ago on Nov. 13 in Cleveland. Phil Dawson did all the scoring for the Browns on four field goals in a 13-12 loss. Josh Brown kicked a 34-yard field goal with 7:42 left to win it for the Rams.
–Only five players on the roster were with the Browns in 2011 when they last played the Rams — left tackle Joe Thomas (2007), center Alex Mack (2009), left cornerback Joe Haden (2010), right guard John Greco and linebacker Craig Robertson. Of that group only Thomas, Mack and Haden were drafted.
NOTES: CB Joe Haden (concussion) has not yet been cleared to practice. He missed the game against the Broncos last week. … LB Craig Robertson (ankle) did not practice Wednesday. He has missed three games because of the injury. … FS Tashaun Gipson (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday but was working on the side. He has missed two games because of the injury. … TE Rob Housler (hamstring) did not practice on Wednesday and coach Mike Pettine said rookie tight end E.J. Bibbs might be active vs. the Rams if Housler does not improve. Bibbs has been inactive for each game this season.
