Colts productive on offense despite losing

The Indianapolis’ offense topped 400 yards (409) for the first time this season in the loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday night. The Colts’ 24 first downs was also a season-high.
With his 30 completions Sunday night against the Patriots, quarterback Andrew Luck passed Johnny Unitas for the second-most 20-plus completion games in franchise history with 34. Former Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has the record with 153.
Indianapolis’ offensive line has been flagged for holding 16 times so far this season through six games. That is tied with Chicago for most in the NFL. The Colts were penalized 11 times overall against New England.
“Yeah, 11 penalties for 100-plus (103) yards. You can’t have them. You’ve got to get it cleaned up,” head coach Chuck Pagano said.
NOTES: QB Andrew Luck (right shoulder) came through Sunday night’s game with New England in good shape physically. Luck did not show any apparent after effects of throwing 50 passes after sitting out the previous two games and seeing limited practice time the last two weeks. … Rookie S Clayton Geathers (sprained knee) left in the first half of Sunday’s night’s game with New England. He underwent an MRI exam after the game, which was negative. Geathers will be listed as day-to-day for the rest of the week. … S Mike Adams (hamstring) was hurt in the second half of the Patriots game on Sunday night. He did not return. Adams’ injury is not thought to be serious. He will be listed as day-to-day in practice for the rest of the week. He is tied for the league lead with four interceptions so far this season. … OLB Bjoern Werner (hamstring) did not play against New England on Sunday night. He was a pre-game inactive. Werner has been nursing a tweaked hamstring for the past two weeks. He saw light practice last week. His status for this week’s game with New Orleans remains up in the air. … ILB Nate Irving (knee) was a pre-game inactive against the Patriots on Sunday night. Irving has been nursing a knee issue since he was injured last season while he was still playing for Denver. He has seen spot duty on defense this season. Irving remains hopeful of being able to play against New Orleans this week.
