Now that the first quarter of the season is done, we’re going to begin our weekly ranking of who will win the NFL’s Most Valuable Player Award.

1. Tom Brady, QB, New England Patriots

In the months of the “Deflate-gate” hearings and evidence, we heard of messages where Tom Brady said that he could play another 6 years.  After watching him begin the 2015 season, there’s no reason to believe he’s slowing down.  Brady has been excellent with only one legitimately great weapon on offense in Rob Gronkowski.  He has completed 72.2 percent of his throws, averaging nearly 375 yards passing per game and has nine touchdowns without an interception.

Who else could you vote for right now?

2. Julio Jones, WR, Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons might be the biggest surprise of any of the undefeated teams.  The Falcons offense has been explosive and the biggest reason is wide receiver Julio Jones.  The former sixth-overall pick is on pace to demolish most of the NFL’s single season receiving records as he’s caught 38 passes, for 478 yards with four touchdowns already, and that’s without playing as many snaps as a lot of receivers due to his team being involved in blowout victories.  Jones is the toughest cover in the NFL right now.

3. Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers

The former No. 1 overall draft pick, Heisman Trophy Winner and National Champion at Auburn doesn’t put up enormous stats and if you don’t watch the Panthers regularly it’s tough to fully appreciate what he does for the team.  Newton is the emotional leader and he’s playing with virtually nothing around him as far as offensive weapons.  He simply makes everyone on his team better, offense and defense.  His teammates appreciate everything he does and he gets tons of undeserved criticism.

4. Andy Dalton, QB, Cincinnati Bengals

Very few people saw this sort of excellent start by Andy Dalton coming, but he’s been really good in utilizing the multitude of weapons around him.  The “Red Rocket” looks more confident than at any point in his career, and he has completed 67.2 percent of his throws, for 1,187 yards, with nine touchdowns and only one interception.  The jury is still out on whether he can do it in December and January, but in October Dalton looks like a legitimate MVP candidate.

5. Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers

Aaron Rodgers is a victim of his own greatness, as more is probably expected out of him than any other quarterback, because he is the best in the game.  There’s no throw that he can’t make and if you were putting together a quarterback in a laboratory, Rodgers would be the prototype.  He “quietly” has the Packers to an undefeated start and he’s simply the most exciting player in the NFL to watch.  Rodgers is climbing up the ranks of being potentially the greatest ever to play the position.
