TAMPA, Fla . – Rookie quarterback Jameis Winston’s four interceptions on Sunday in a loss to the Carolina Panthers can be chalked up to bad decision-making by Winston, coach Lovie Smith said.

“You say the same thing about most picks,” Smith said. “It’s not a good decision on throwing the football. It’s as simple as that. [He] would like to have some of those back. We had some options, just some tough decisions that were made yesterday.

“Yesterday we made some decisions that we would like to have over. Jameis hadn’t been in a situation where wet balls were involved.

“There were a lot of circumstances that you could probably say contributed to it a little bit, but no, I’m talking about yesterday’s game we turned the football over too many times and we don’t see that as a constant problem going forward.”

Notes: RB Charles Sims caught a 10-yard touchdown pass after also catching a touchdown the previous week at Houston on Sept. 27. He becomes the first Buccaneers running back to catch touchdowns in consecutive games since 1991 – Robert Wilson on Oct. 6, 1991 vs. Philadelphia and Oct. 20, 1991 at New Orleans – and only the fourth in team history to do so. James Wilder (Nov. 5 1989 vs. Cleveland and Nov. 12, 1989 vs. Minnesota) and Adger Armstrong (Nov. 25, 1984 11/25/84 vs. the Los Angeles Rams and Dec. 2 1984 at Green Bay) are the others. … DE Wil Gholston made his first start of the season and finished with a tackle for loss, a pass defended and three total tackles. … DE George Johnson was demoted from a starting role, and had just one assisted tackle Sunday. … CB Mike Jenkins, a former South Florida star, his first start, taking over for injured CB Johnthan Banks. He slipped and was beaten on WR Ted Ginn’s first touchdown and finished with only one tackle and two passes defended.
