Jets activate QB Smith
The Sports Xchange
For the first time since being sucker-punched, New York quarterback Geno Smith is active and will be available when the Jets face the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday.
Smith, who suffered a broken jaw in August, is listed as third string behind starter Ryan Fitzpatrick and rookie Bryce Petty.
The Jets originally said Smith’s recovery would be six-to-10 weeks after he was punched by linebacker IK Enemkpali inn August.
Smith has made 29 starts for the Jets, but during his absence Fitzpatrick has taken control of the position and led the Jets to a 2-0 record. The veteran quarterback has thrown for 432 yards and four touchdowns.
Jets head coach Todd Bowles has been clear that Smith would not be given the starting job.
As a starter, Smith is 11-18 with 25 touchdowns and 34 interceptions.
