Raiders pick up CB Amerson

The Oakland Raiders added cornerback David Amerson on Tuesday, reportedly claiming him one day after he was waived by the Washington Redskins.

Amerson started 23 games in his first two seasons with the Redskins and compiled 109 tackles and two interceptions in 33 career games. But he was buried on the depth chart this year and didn’t play last week against the St. Louis Rams.

The Redskins waived Amerson, drafted in the second round in 2013, to make room on their roster for defensive lineman Frank Kearse.

With the Raiders, Amerson joins a secondary that includes starting cornerbacks D.J. Hayden and T.J. Carrie. Oakland is looking for help in pass coverage after giving up 653 yards through the air in two home games to start the season.
