Eagles LB Alonso out with ACL sprain
The Sports Xchange
Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Kiko Alonso is out for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.
Defensive coordinator Bill Davis said on Tuesday that Alonso and defensive lineman Cedric Thornton will not be available for at least Week 3. Alonso is out indefinitely and reportedly has a small tear — in medical terms, a Grade II sprain — in the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Alonso suffered an ACL tear in the same knee in 2014 while working out in Oregon.
Typically a torn MCL carries a recovery time of 4-6 weeks.
Linebacker Mychal Kendricks (hamstring) was given an “outside chance” to return, Davis said.
Davis described Alonso as being in the evaluation process.
“We’re crossing our fingers and hoping everything turns out the best. We’re unsure about him, but this week I don’t expect him to play,” he said.
Alonso was the key piece acquired via trade from the Buffalo Bills in the deal that sent Pro Bowl running back LeSean McCoy out of town. Alonso missed all of last season after being named Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2013.
