TE Witten latest Cowboys’ casualty

Jason Witten is hurting, but the veteran ironman tight end could still take the field with the Dallas Cowboys this week.

Witten injured both ankles and sprained his knee Sunday at Philadelphia.

The Cowboys beat the Eagles but lost quarterback Tony Romo (clavicle) one week after wide receiver Dez Bryant (foot) was injured. Romo could miss eight weeks, and Bryant is likely to be gone 7-10 weeks.

Witten confessed he was injured Sunday but termed the three different issues “typical football stuff.”

Without Witten, Gavin Escobar would get the start, but teammates are likely to believe Witten is sitting when they see it. He played in the opener after rupturing his spleen and has only one missed game in his career — with a broken jaw.
