The New England Patriots added some intrigue to their Sunday AFC East showdown with the Buffalo Bills by taking a look at former Bills running back Bryce Brown in a workout on Friday, ESPN.com reported.

Brown was released by the Bills earlier this week after being acquired in trade with the Philadelphia Eagles prior to last season.

Brown, 24, played in seven games for the Bills last season, including two starts, and rushed for 126 yards in 36 carries, averaging 3.5 yards per carry.

It’s unclear how much interest the Patriots have in Brown or how they would use him if he is signed.

The Patriots have five runners on the roster at the moment. LeGarrette Blount is expected to get most of the work on first and second down, with Dion Lewis likely to get playing time on passing downs. Brandon Bolden, James White and Travaris Cadet are the Patriots’ other running backs.
