NFL Fun Stats is put together to provide a wide range of number-oriented morsels for those who crave the delicacy and geek-dom of NFL statistics, news and notes. If you’re not quoting one note each week, I’m not doing my job. Here are your water cooler nuggets.

Running backs in Week 1 were fed 20 carries in a single game. The list of Week 1 work horses includes Carlos Hyde, Matt Forte and Chris Ivory. Hyde leads the NFL in rushing after the first week of action after his 26-carry, 168-yard two-touchdown performance.

Teams failed to throw a touchdown pass on opening day of the 2015 NFL season. Ironically, those four teams played in two games. The Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos played against each other with not a single offensive touchdown being scored. The final game of Week 1 saw the Minnesota Vikings playing against the San Francisco 49ers. That game did include offensive touchdowns but none off the arm of a quarterback.

Touchdowns were scored off of interceptions in Week 1. It was a great weekend to play in the secondary with 28 passes being picked off by defenses across the NFL. Six of those 28 interceptions were returned for touchdowns by defensive backs. The sticky hands crew includes Josh Norman (Carolina Panthers), Aqib Talib (Denver Broncos), Glover Quin (Detroit Lions), Jimmy Smith (Baltimore Ravens) and Coty Sensabaugh (Tennessee Titans).

Tight ends scored at least two touchdowns in Week 1. New England Patriots Rob Gronkowski got things started on opening night by scorching the Pittsburgh Steelers secondary for three touchdowns. Four others went end zone twice which includes Jason Witten (Dallas Cowboys), Travis Kelce (Kansas City Chiefs) Austin Seferian-Jenkins (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and Tyler Eifert (Cincinnati Bengals).

Rushing yards by Johnny Manziel, which led the team in the category against the New York Jets in Week 1. Manziel also threw his first official NFL touchdown pass.  Manziel threw a deep, accurate strike to receiver Travis Benjamin that covered 54 yards.

Sacks registered by last year’s No. 1 overall selection Jadeveon Clowney in his young career. He missed nearly his entire rookie season after hurting his right knee that required microfracture surgery. Clowney diligently rehabbed to appear in the Week 1 lineup for the Houston Texans but that elusive first NFL sack still evades the top selection in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Quarters of football were the span of time it took the Tennessee Titans to score more than 40 points last year. In Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the rookie led Titans offense erupted for 42 points to surpass that total in only one game. Second-overall pick Marcus Mariota threw four touchdown passes in the game in limited action. He was rested in the fourth quarter after going 13 for 16, for 209 yards and four touchdowns.

Quarterbacks were kept out of the grasp of defenders in Week 1 and avoided being sacked. The offensive lines that went above and beyond the call of duty include the Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets, Arizona Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills.

Receiving yards in one game may not warrant rave reviews, but it is a significant to one Pro Bowl player. San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis had three receptions for 47 yards in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings. It is the most yards he has had since Week 13 of 2013, a span that covers 16 games. The next task for Davis is to find the end zone. He has not scored a touchdown in 15 straight games.

Catch was all it took in Week 1 for two players find pay-dirt. New England Patriots tight end Scott Chandler had just one catch for a one yard that netted six points. Arizona Cardinals rookie running back David Johnson took his first NFL receptions 55 yards to the house and scored his first NFL touchdown.

Straight games with an interception is the current streak for Minnesota Vikings second-year quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. In his first nine games of his rookie season last year Bridgewater had four games with an interception. Since that time he has been unable to avoid giving at least one gift the defense.

Is the same exact number of receiving yards New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham in his first game of 2014 and 2015. Unfortunately, the streak of four 100-yard receiving games he carried into the 2015 season ended Week 1.
