ASHBURN, Va. — The Washington Redskins, who have already lost quarterback Robert Griffin III, tight end Jordan Reed, nose tackle Barry Cofield, cornerback DeAngelo Hall and left guard Shawn Lauvao for at least a game apiece, might have dodged more bad news with two-time Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams.

Williams, who exited Thursday’s loss to the New York Giants with a strained right knee, didn’t need the expected MRI on Friday.

“We got good news on Trent,” coach Jay Gruden said. “It’s patellar inflammation. He should be OK (for next Monday’s game against Seattle). That’s a relief.”

The news was the opposite on the other Trent. Reserve safety Trenton Robinson limped off during garbage time. Gruden said Friday that Robinson would probably miss a few weeks with a left high ankle sprain.

That makes just-promoted Akeem Davis the only backup to veteran safeties Ryan Clark and Brandon Meriweather, although 2013 draft pick Phillip Thomas is on the practice squad.

As for tight end Niles Paul, he suffered a concussion on his final catch against the Giants when he was slammed by safety Quentin Demps and didn’t return.

Gruden said Paul has entered the NFL’s concussion protocol and is day to day for the Seahawks. Paul had been filling in for Jordan Reed, who missed the final six games of 2013 with a concussion, and has been sidelined since the first quarter of the opener against Houston with a hamstring injury.

Paul became the first Redskins tight end to accumulate at least 60 yards in four straight games since Pro Bowl pick Chris Cooley in 2007.
