Redskins WR Jackson likely to miss 3-4 weeks

The season opener was merely a cameo for Washington Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who is expected to miss three to four weeks with the strained hamstring he suffered Sunday.

Jackson underwent an MRI on Monday and coach Jay Gruden said it’s possible Jackson could return earlier than expected.

“But you never know with hamstrings,” Gruden said.

Jackson injured his left hamstring while running a deep route on an overthrown pass from quarterback Kirk Cousins on the first play of the Redskins’ second series against the Miami Dolphins.

Jackson, who led the NFL with 20.9 yards per catch last year, missed the entire preseason with a sprained shoulder.

Gruden said he didn’t know if there was a connection between Jackson missing so much of training camp and the injury he sustained on Sunday.

“You’d like to have guys all throughout training camp, but the shoulder limited him,” Gruden said. “He was able to do a lot of running during that time, but I don’t think it was that. I think it was just one of those things that happen to wide receivers every now and then.”

Andre Roberts took Jackson’s place in Sunday’s 17-10 loss, but a long-term absence might push the Redskins to use more multiple-tight end looks.
