Dolphins cut RB/returner James
The Sports Xchange
The Miami Dolphins on Monday released running back LaMike James, who fumbled a kickoff return in the season opener against the Washington Redskins.
FoxSports.com reported that James and wide receiver teammate Jarvis Landry had a brief scuffle last week during preparation for Sunday’s game at Washington. Both players apologized.
According to the report, the dispute began when Landry flicked James’ ear on the way into a team meeting. The two, who were competing for kick return duties, yelled at one another until things became physical.
James, a second-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2012, won the kick return and punt return duties for the Dolphins in training camp.
James fumbled a kickoff in the third quarter that he eventually recovered. In addition, he fumbled and lost a punt in the preseason finale against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Dolphins also activated tight end Jake Stoneburner off their practice squad Monday. He is expected to fill in for tight end Dion Sims, who suffered a concussion in Sunday’s 17-10 win.
