Bucs-Titans inactives: WR Evans (hamstring) out
The Sports Xchange
TAMPA — Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans is inactive for Sunday’s season opener against the Tennessee Titans with a hamstring injury, taking away a top target for rookie quarterback Jameis Winston in his NFL debut.
The Titans have two defensive starters inactive with injuries as well in cornerback Jason McCourty (groin) and defensive tackle Sammie Hill (knee).
Evans has been sidelined since Aug. 24 after injuring his hamstring against the Bengals, missing the last two preseason games. The Bucs will need Louis Murphy to step up as a No. 2 receiver with Vincent Jackson, with tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins taking a larger role as well.
The Bucs’ other inactives are cornerback Mike Jenkins (hamstring) and defensive end T.J. Fatinikun (shoulder), as well as running back Mike James, quarterback Ryan Griffin, center Eric Kush and defensive end Kourtnei Brown.
The Titans have quarterback Charlie Whitehurst, running back Antonio Andrews, guard Quinton Spain, tight end Chase Coffman and defensive end Ropati Pitoitua also inactive.
