Saints cut RB Hightower among several roster moves
The Sports Xchange
A day before their season opener against the Arizona Cardinals, the New Orleans Saints reportedly made three roster swaps Saturday, including releasing former Cardinals running back Tim Hightower.
The team also released guard Mike McGlynn and placed linebacker Davis Tull on injured reserve, according to Pro Football Talk. Three players were promoted from the practice squad to fill the spots on the 53-man roster: safety Don Jones, receiver Seantavius Jones and fullback Tobin Opurum.
Hightower, 28, had been out of football since suffering a torn ACL and undergoing surgery in 2011 as a member of the Washington Redskins. He had played his first three seasons with the Cardinals, who drafted him in the fifth round in 2008.
McGlynn, 30, had signed with the Saints in May. He started 13 games for Kansas City in 2014 and has started 61 games in seven seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles (2008-10) and Cincinnati Bengals (2011).
Opurum was on the Saints’ practice squad last year and had been waived at final cutdowns last weekend.
Seantavius Jones, an undrafted free agent in 2014 who was on the roster late in the season, bolsters a receiving corps that had just four players before Saturday.
