Still’s daughter has tumor removed
The 4-year-old daughter of Cincinnati Bengals defensive lineman Devon Still underwent a six-hour procedure Thursday to remove a cancerous tumor.
Still reported on his Instagram account after the surgery that Leah’s doctor at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia also was able to clear the area in her right adrenal gland where the cancer originated.
The young girl still faces more treatment that includes chemotherapy and radiation.
Since she was diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroblastoma on June 2, the story was captured national attention.
Still was waived by the Bengals before the season, admitting that his thoughts were not on football but consumed by his daughter’s condition. But then he was re-signed by the team to the practice squad in order to provide health insurance for Leah’s treatment.
Two weeks ago, Still was added to the 53-man active roster and he has five tackles for the Bengals, who are 3-0 and have a bye this week.
Before Thursday’s surgery, Still posted a video that shows him giving Leah a pep talk inside his car on the way to the hospital.
“I’m going to ask you again,” Still asked Leah. “I’m ready for today. Are you ready for today?”
She nodded and smiled, and then the father and daughter did a fist bump.
The Bengals reported Thursday that 10,000 Still jerseys have been sold, with $1 million from the proceeds going to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital for pediatric cancer research. New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton purchased 100 Still jerseys.
