The New York Giants signed safety Craig Dahl, a member of their Super Bowl XLII championship team in 2007, and released safety Stevie Brown on Monday.

Brown signed a deal with the Giants last week after being released by the Houston Texans. He signed with Houston on May 1 after playing for the Giants from 2012-14.

Dahl was released by the San Francisco 49ers on Friday. He spent the previous two seasons with the 49ers and played in 16 games in 2014, making 23 tackles and one interception.

Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo coached Dahl during his first stint as defensive coordinator for the Giants in 2007 and as head coach of the St. Louis Rams from 2009-11.

Dahl is the fourth player the Giants have added in four days, joining punter Brad Wing, defensive tackle Louis Nix and cornerback Asa Jackson (who was with Spagnuolo last season in Baltimore).

Dahl has played in 102 regular-season games (43 starts) and played in three postseason games. His career totals include 357 tackles, four interceptions, two sacks, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and 63 special teams tackles.

In 2014, Dahl played in all 16 games with one start for the 49ers. He had 12 solo tackles and two passes defensed on defense, plus seven special teams tackles.

Dahl entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Giants in 2007 out of North Dakota State. As a rookie, he played in nine games with two starts. Dahl tore his left anterior cruciate ligament in the regular-season finale, forcing him to miss the playoffs, including the Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots, and the entire 2008 season.

Brown played in the Giants’ preseason finale last Thursday in New England, and had one tackle and an interception on a tipped pass.

Brown originally joined the Giants as a free agent on April 3, 2012. That season, he played in 16 games with 11 starts and led the team and was tied for second in the NFL with eight interceptions. He set a franchise record with 307 interception return yards.

In 2013, Brown missed the entire season after tearing his left anterior cruciate ligament in a preseason game on Aug. 24. He was placed on injured reserve the following day and underwent surgery on Sept. 5.

Last year, Brown returned to the field to play all 16 games with eight starts. He contributed 36 tackles, a pass defensed, a sack and two special teams tackles.
