Eagles add QB Morris

Published

The Sports Xchange

After trading away Matt Barkley and waiving Tim Tebow, the Philadelphia Eagles added a quarterback on Sunday, picking up Stephen Morris off waivers.

Morris was waived by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday, and apparently Eagles head coach Chip Kelly considered him an upgrade over either Tebow or Barkley.

Tebow, meanwhile, was not picked up by any team Sunday.

Morris becomes the Eagles’ No. 3 quarterback behind starter Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez.

Morris was signed by the Jaguars last year after going undrafted in 2014. He spent time with the Jaguars’ practice squad last season before being released on Friday.

Morris, who played collegiately at the University of Miami, started Jacksonville’s final preseason game on Thursday, completing 16 of 25 passes for 160 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in a 17-16 victory over the Washington Redskins.

The Eagles typically dress only two quarterbacks for regular-season games, so Morris is likely to be inactive for the Eagles’ opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 14.
