The Miami Dolphins on Saturday officially cut quarterback Josh Freeman and waived third-year kicker Caleb Sturgis among 22 moves to get down to the 53-man roster limit.

Sturgis, the team’s kicker over the past two years, lost out to undrafted rookie Andrew Franks. The Dolphins chose two rookies for their kicking spots: Rookie punter Matt Darr ousted eight-year veteran Brandon Fields, who made the Pro Bowl in 2013.

Freeman’s released had been reported Friday.

The team also waived quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson; running back Mike Gillislee; wide receivers Cobi Hamilton, Damarr Aultman and Tim Semisch; tight ends Jake Stoneburner and Tim Semisch; offensive linemen Sam Brenner, Donald Hawkins, Michael Liedtke and Aundrey Walker; defensive linemen Deandre Coleman, Anthony Johnson and Emmanuel Dieke; linebackers James Davidson, Mike Hull, Jeff Luc and Jordan Tripp and safeties Don Jones and Cedric Thompson.

The team waived injured wide receiver Christion Jones.

Miami kept seven cornerbacks, including Will Davis, who is recovering from an ACL injury and was the subject of trade rumors earlier in the week.

Also making the team were running back LaMike James and veteran lineman Jacques McClendon.
