Seahawks cut C Jeanpierre, trade WR Norwood
The Sports Xchange
The Seattle Seahawks cut center Lemuel Jeanpierre and traded wide receiver Kevin Norwood as they pared their roster to 75 players Monday.
Norwood was traded to the Carolina Panthers for a 2017 draft pick, the Panthers announced.
The Seahawks also placed cornerback Jeremy Lane and wide receiver Paul Richardson on the physically-unable-to-perform list, meaning they will miss at least the first six games. Both are recovering from torn ACLs.
Defensive tackle D’Anthony Smith’s contract was terminated and the team waived offensive tackle Jesse Davis, wide receivers Deshon Foxx and Deontay Greenberry, cornerbacks George Farmer and Keelan Johnson, linebacker Quayshawn Nealy, defensive end Greg Scruggs and safety Ty Zimmerman. Fullback Brandon Cottom and cornerback Triston Wade were waived/injured, which means they could revert to injured reserve if they clear waivers.
Jeanpierre, a six-year veteran, had been battling Drew Nowak for the Seahawks’ starting center spot. His release means Nowak likely has won the job.
Patrick Lewis seemingly will ascend from No. 3 to No. 2, although the Seahawks recently brought in free-agent Samson Satele for a visit and could look to sign him or another veteran.
