Jets DL Williams has no ligament damage
The Sports Xchange
The New York Jets received good news on Sunday regarding the knee injury suffered by rookie defensive lineman Leonard Williams during Saturday night’s preseason game against the New York Giants.
An MRI exam showed no ligament damage in Williams’ knee, and the injury is being called a muscle strain behind his knee.
The Jets do not expect it to be a long-term injury. It is unclear whether Williams will be available for the regular-season opener in two weeks.
The Jets are counting on Williams to be a starter at defensive end, especially with Sheldon Richardson suspended for at least the first four games of the season. Williams was a starter in all three preseason games.
Williams, the sixth overall selection in this year’s NFL Draft, suffered the injury in the second quarter of the 28-18 victory over the Giants and did not return to the game.
