Redskins fear LB Galette has torn Achilles
The Sports Xchange
Washington Redskins linebacker Junior Galette may have suffered a torn Achilles at practice, according to multiple reports Wednesday.
The Redskins fear Galette tore the tendon at the end of training camp practice. He will undergo tests to determine the extent of the injury.
Redskins coach Jay Gruden told reporters after Wednesday’s practice that Galette suffered a left ankle/foot injury.
“I’m very concerned,” Gruden said.
A torn Achilles likely would end Galette’s first season with the Redskins.
The New Orleans Saints released Galette on July 27 following the release of a 2013 video that appears to show a physical altercation on a beach between Galette and a woman that involves a belt. He had about $18 million in guaranteed money remaining on his contract.
Galette signed a one-year contract with the Redskins on July 31, reportedly for the veteran’s minimum.
The 27-year-old Galette was set to make his preseason debut Saturday night against the Baltimore Ravens after spending time rehabilitating a torn left pectoral muscle.
Galette was arrested in January for domestic violence, but the charge was dismissed Feb. 19. The NFL has talked to Galette about the arrest and the league is investigating the 2013 video of the scuffle in South Beach, Fla.
Galette recorded 22 sacks the past two seasons with the Saints — a career-high 12 in 2013 and 10 last season.
