NFL roundup: Nelson injured in Packers’ loss
The Sports Xchange
The Green Bay Packers let a 19-9 lead slip away in a 24-19 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in a preseason game in Pittsburgh on Sunday, but the Packers may have suffered a more significant loss when wide receiver Jordy Nelson went down with a knee injury.
Nelson landed awkwardly while trying to cut after making a reception on Green Bay’s opening drive.
The preliminary diagnosis for Nelson, a Pro Bowl selection last season, was that he tore his ACL, although the team is awaiting the results of an MRI exam to confirm the extent of the injury.
Backup quarterback Landry Jones threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes to lead the Steelers’ rally. He finished 10-for-19 for 172 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Pittsburgh starter Ben Roethlisberger was 10-for-14 for 100 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.
Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers complete four of five passes for 57 yards in his limited playing time, but he was also sacked by James Harrison for a safety in the first period.
Scott Tolzien got most of the work at quarterback for the Packers, completing 11 of 19 passes for 102 yards and a score, while rookie quarterback Brett Hundley was 3-for-5 for 19 yards and was sacked twice.
Packers running back Eddie Lacy was the leading rusher in the game, gaining 30 yards in six carries.
Pittsburgh Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey left with a left ankle injury in the first quarter and did not return.
