Eagles LB Smith out 2-3 weeks with hamstring strain
The Sports Xchange
Philadelphia Eagles outside linebacker Marcus Smith is expected to miss two to three weeks with a hamstring strain.
Smith, the team’s first-round draft pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, injured his right hamstring in Thursday’s practice but hopes to be back for the season opener.
An MRI on Friday morning confirmed that Smith’s hamstring was strained.
“It’s not as bad as I thought it was,” Smith said Friday. “Three weeks is probably the most. I’ll definitely be ready for the Falcons game. I’ll try to be back for the last preseason game.”
Smith, 23, took a cart to the locker room during the team’s joint practice with the Baltimore Ravens after going down during a kickoff drill.
“I’m glad it wasn’t anything major, but it’s still something that keeps him out,” defensive coordinator Bill Davis said before Friday’s practice. “It’s disappointing, probably to him more than anybody. He was really taking some growth steps and coming along, and now he’s got a setback.”
