Surgery, PUP for Steelers CB Golson
The Sports Xchange
LATROBE, Pa. — Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Senquez Golson, the team’s second-round draft pick, underwent shoulder surgery Friday and was placed on the physically unable to perform list where he may spend the rest of the season.
The former Mississippi star arrived at camp with the injury, but hoped it would get better. Coach Mike Tomlin would not say whether Golson would be a candidate to return at some point during the season.
Injuries will also impact the Steelers at inside linebacker in Sunday’s game against Green Bay. Inside linebacker Lawrence Timmons, who made the Pro Bowl last year, will not play after missing all week of practices with turf toe, although Tomlin said he is not overly concerned about it.
However, Timmons’ backup, Vince Williams, also will not play Sunday because of a hamstring injury that prevented him from practicing for nearly two weeks.
Offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva, a former Army Ranger with three tours of duty in Afghanistan where he earned a Bronze Star medal, is making a strong bid to be the No. 3 tackle. He played left tackle in the first two games and will play on the right Sunday. The Steelers signed him and put him at tackle after the Philadelphia Eagles cut him last year as a defensive end.
Outside linebacker Bud Dupree, the team’s first-round draft pick, hopes to get his first sack in his Heinz Field debut Sunday. He has three tackles in two games with no quarterback pressures.
