Pryor’s status in question for scrimmage in Columbus

Terrelle Pryor is considered doubtful for the Cleveland Browns’ intrasquad sscirmmage on Friday night in Ohio Stadium in Columbus.

Pryor is dealing with a tight hamstring that caused him to miss practice along with wide receiver Dwayne Bowe. A former NFL quarterback, Pryor is attempting to make a transition to wide receiver in camp.

“Not believed to be serious,” Browns coach Mike Pettine said of Pryor’s injury. “But will still be a little bit of time. It will be at least obviously through the scrimmage.”

Pryor was set to return to the Horseshoe for the first time since he received a five-year ban from campus in the wake of NCAA sanctions against the Ohio State football program in 2011. If he’s unable to participate on the field Friday night, it’s uncertain whether he will attend the scrimmage.

Pryor tweaked the hamstring during Tuesday’s practice. While the injury is not considered serious, the Browns are playing it safe.

Asked about Pryor’s status for the scrimmage, Pettine said, “I’d probably lean toward the doubtful side.”

Ohio State cleared Pryor earlier in the summer after he joined the Browns to return for the scrimmage.

“I don’t look toward Friday,” Pryor said. “I do want to go in The Shoe, obviously, and play. But it’s practice and I want to be out there for the first preseason game, the second, third, fourth and the first game of the season. That’s what I’m preparing myself for.”
