Free-agent wide receiver Ace Sanders, who was waived by the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this month, has been suspended by the NFL for the first 10 games of the season, The Sports Xchange has learned.

Despite reports that Sanders had looked good this offseason, the Jaguars surprisingly waived him on July 17. The Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions reportedly expressed some interest in him, but the suspension likely ended any chance of him signing with a team this year.

–Seven months ago, St. Louis task-force leaders Dave Peacock and Bob Blitz unveiled a plan for a nearly $1 billion stadium to either keep the Rams in the city or attract another NFL team.

That goal came one step closer to reality when St. Louis Circuit Judge Thomas Frawley ruled a city ordinance that required a public vote on funding for new stadiums was invalid.

–A couple of days after New York Giants co-owner John Mara pleaded for injured defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul to “come home,” the 26-year-old did the next best thing.

Pierre-Paul, who reportedly has been holed up in his Florida home recovering from a series of traumatic injuries to his right hand resulting from a July 4 fireworks accident, finally reached out to general manager Jerry Reese and vice president of medical services Ronnie Barnes to open a dialogue. Reese conformed the conversation took place, but did not divulge what was said.

–Green Bay Packers tight end Andrew Quarless didn’t report to the start of training camp last week because he was dealing with the death of his baby daughter.

An emotional Quarless, fighting back tears, shared the news with reporters Monday.

–The Packers signed wide receiver Ed Williams. The 6-foot, 196-pound Williams went undrafted out of Fort Hays State (Kan.).

–Detroit Lions defensive tackle Haloti Ngata is beginning training camp on the list for non-football injuries.

Ngata has a minor hamstring injury, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported.

Ngata remains on the active roster and can come off the NFI list at any time before the season. The Lions opened camp on Monday.

–Pittsburgh Steelers second-round pick Senquez Golson could be out for the season if he opts for shoulder surgery.

Golson was hurt during spring workouts and his absence led the Steelers to acquire Brandon Boykin from the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Steelers also activated center Maurkice Pouncey off the physically-unable-to-perform list. He had been out with a foot injury.

–The Arizona Cardinals activated veteran tight end Jermaine Gresham from the physically unable to perform list.

Gresham, who had back surgery during the offseason, signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals last week.

–Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Star Lotulelei was carted off the training camp practice field with an apparent foot injury.

–Baltimore Ravens safety Matt Elam is likely to miss the season after tearing his biceps during a full contact practice on Saturday.

The Ravens are still waiting for full results of an MRI that their 2013 first-round pick either fully or partially tore his biceps, according to the Baltimore Sun.

–Offensive line coach Aaron Kromer received a six-game suspension from the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

The move came two days after Florida prosecutors dismissed misdemeanor battery charges against Kromer and his son, Zachery Kromer. Aaron Kromer was arrested in Walton County, Fla., on July 12 after allegedly punching a boy and threatening to kill his family over a dispute involving beach chairs.

–The Denver Broncos restructured the contract of punter Britton Colquitt on Monday, reducing his base salary for 2015.

Colquitt signed a four-year, $11.677 million deal in 2013 that made him one of the highest-paid punters in the league, but his base salary has now been cut from $3 million to $1.6 million this season, according to ESPN.com. The Broncos will save $1.4 million against the salary cap.

— The Broncos placed wide receiver Kyle Williams on injured reserve and signed wide receiver Corbin Louks.

Williams suffered a season-ending Achilles injury at training camp practice Saturday.

–The Kansas City Chiefs waived defensive lineman Jerel Worthy. Worthy, a former second-round selection Green Bay Packers, spent two seasons with the Packers.

–The Buffalo Bills signed cornerback Merrill Noel.

Noel had signed with the Bills on May 4 as an undrafted rookie out of Wake Forest. He was released by the team on June 18.

— The San Diego Chargers signed defensive tackle Luther Robinson and placed defensive tackle Tenny Palepoi on injured reserve with a foot injury.
