LB Harrison out of retirement to rejoin Steelers

Published

on

Linebacker James Harrison is back in uniform with the Pittsburgh Steelers, ending a brief retirement that lasted less than a month after a meeting with team officials Tuesday.

Harrison announced the deal with an Instagram photo of his contract signing.

The longtime Steelers defensive stalwart began last season with the Cincinnati Bengals but was released. He met with the Arizona Cardinals in August but was not signed.

Harrison announced his retirement Aug. 30.

The 36-year-old did not bring the pass-rush pressure the Bengals were looking for last season and is more of a run-stopper on the edge at this stage of his career.

Pittsburgh rookie linebacker Ryan Shazier and second-year linebacker Jarvis Jones both were injured in Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.

Shazier is expected to miss a couple of weeks with a sprained knee. Jones was placed on the injured reserve/designated to return list. He will be out at least eight weeks after dislocating his wrist.

Shazier sprained his knee and is expected to miss at least a couple of weeks.
